After a mysterious bit of viral marketing introduced us to Jake Gyllenhaal‘s character in Dan Gilroy‘s “Nightcrawler,” the full trailer for the film has dropped, giving us much more insight to what exactly is going on.
Gyllenhaal's Louis Bloom is a freelance crime journalist who's hoping to land something more serious and prestigious, perhaps an on-air position at a news station, though his intensity apparently scares potential employers off, leading him to take his career into his own hands.

We soon see Louis with video camera in tow in all sorts of shady situations, culminating in what appears to be a precalculated murder, the victim shot at point-blank range inside a fancy house. After all, “if you want to win the lottery, you have to make the money to buy a ticket,” as his character is wont to say. If that means being an accessory to murder in order to get a great shot, so be it.
The film is set to be released on October 17 and also stars Rene Russo, Bill Paxton and Riz Ahmed.
